Student Union's Magazine

I was reading the April issue of the CU Student Union's Magazine. In one of the articles, the author discusses that Hong Kong is still being run like a colony after 1997. This is pretty true, although no one would admit it. The promise of "No change in 50 years" probably includes the status of being a colony. That's fine. But the daily experience and the way the society runs give young people an impression that we are not able to control our own destiny. This mentality will ruin the society.

I was not so aware of this before I worked in the US. Yes, Americans are arrogant, and many of them are even ignorant. But they understand that anyone in the world can make a difference. It is your choice but not your ability that decide your way of living.

I told people that I would retire in Europe but not work there. Not to mention they do not accept Asian as much as the Americans, European societies are not as open to individual performance as well.

I am glad that the Student Union's Magazine is having so many quality articles on local affairs, politics and movies. It also has one thing that most Presses in Hong Kong dare not to have: a strong and firm political stand point. Righteousness and guts are all it takes to become a world-class newspaper. Keep it up.
